Elect John Ward for Hardin County Sheriff 2026

John Ward is a career law-enforcement leader and the three-term Sheriff of Hardin County, Kentucky. First elected in 2014 and serving since 2015, Sheriff Ward leads a full-service agency dedicated to safer streets and a stronger community.

A graduate of East Hardin High School, Ward began his public-safety career close to home before joining the Kentucky State Police in 1986. Over a distinguished KSP career, he rose to the rank of captain and held key leadership roles including post commander, internal affairs branch commander, and supply branch commander experience he brings to modern, accountable policing in Hardin County.

Since becoming sheriff, Ward has focused on community partnership and prevention. The Sheriff’s Office regularly engages students and families with reminders about safe choices during milestones like graduation season, and the agency maintains strong ties with local schools including supporting more than a dozen School Resource Officers across Hardin County Schools.

Ward’s service extends beyond the county line. He serves on the National Sheriffs’ Association Board of Directors and is a past president of the Kentucky Sheriffs’ Association roles that let him bring best practices back to Hardin County.
